The Formative Years Series
There is a dichotomy in children; individuals who are struggling to find their place in society, yet not developed enough to fit into its social structure. This duality of innocence and maturity is reflected in the sophisticated renderings overlaying childlike sketches. These images explore cruelty and trauma experienced during childhood, conducted by children or inflicted upon them. Whether it be a childhood bully, an unwanted dare, or the love and sub-sequential abandonment of a cherished object. An inevitable move away from the “home” further emphasizes this loss of innocent. Through the use of symbolism and narrative elements I aim to portray the situations and experiences we carry with us from our formative years into adulthood.
